Senior Residents Given New Bus

May 25, 2010

Van with LiftA new 12-passenger bus has been purchased for senior residents of Royale Meadows, Crown Pointe, and Franken Manor in Sioux Center. Residents can now enjoy more outdoor trips and activities because of the charitable contributions from others.

Each year the Sioux Center Community Hospital & Health Center Avera holds an annual Year End Appeal to raise funds for specific projects throughout the organization. Last year, part of the funds went to the purchase of a new bus for senior services. In addition, a gift of $7,500 was pledged by the Senior Enrichment Foundation Board.

“We are touched by the support of the community and the Senior Enrichment Foundation Board,” said Kathy Gerdes, senior services director with the Sioux Center Community Hospital & Health Center Avera. “This is a wonderful gift from our community and the staff and residents are thrilled to have this bus.”

The bus will be used by the senior services departments to take residents off campus for fun, social activities. With a larger capacity than the previous van, seniors now have easier access for wheelchairs and much larger windows in the bus which provide better views while riding.

“Improving the ease of transportation will help us as we continually strive to increase activities available for our residents and enhance the quality of life for all of our residents and tenants,” said Kayleen Lee, chief executive officer of the Sioux Center Community Hospital & Health Center Avera.

The bus made its first journey for the organization to the Tulip Festival Parade in Orange City.

Over 5,000 nursing homes in the country participated in a 2009 satisfaction survey. Royale Meadows was one of only 342 nursing homes to receive this high honor. The award, which is presented annually, recognizes those providers that performed in the top ten percent of nursing homes.

“This year’s award recipients deserve to be recognized and applauded for their dedication to customer satisfaction,” said Neil Gulsvig, President, My InnerView. “This annual award underscores the difference they make and serves to honor the valuable work that they do.”

My InnerView, the applied research and quality-improvement solutions provider that presents the annual award, supports leaders across the entire senior care profession with tools to measure, benchmark and improve performance. This year’s award for superior customer satisfaction was presented to select My InnerView customers who completed a resident or family satisfaction survey in 2009, had a minimum 30 percent response rate, and scored in the top ten percent of qualifying facilities on the question “What is your recommendation of this facility to others?” in terms of the percentage of respondents rating the nursing home as “excellent.”

“We are pleased to receive yet another quality award for our nursing home care,” said Kayleen Lee, chief executive officer for the Sioux Center Community Hospital & Health Center Avera. “This award is exemplifies what we knew all along – that we have a caring staff and strong commitment to providing the highest quality care for our residents.”
